How to Demonstrate Corporate Civic Responsibility

This year, major elections around the world including the November 8 midterms in the United States demand our attention.

American social reformer and co-founder of the women’s suffrage movement Susan B. Anthony once said, “someone struggled for your right to vote. Use it.” At Deed, we believe that we have a responsibility to safeguard our civil and collective liberties by exercising the right to vote.

On the precipice of the November 8 election, we hope that this toolkit will be used to raise global awareness of citizenship and human rights. We focus on intersectional areas such as people of the global majority, women, and LGBTQIA+. We were selective with the geographic distribution of included nonprofits, despite a predominantly U.S. focus. Additionally, we include a special section advocating for democracy in Iran, a tribute to Mahsa Amini, the 22-year old Kurdish-Iranian woman who died in police custody after being detained for allegedly violating Iran’s conservative hijab laws.

Although the right to vote exists in the U.S., it remains out of reach for many around the world, as do other fundamental human rights. Anthony died in 1906, 14 years before women were given the right to vote with the passage of the 19th Amendment. She couldn’t use her vote, but our community should use ours. There’s a saying, “vote with your dollar”; this election cycle, more than ever, we urge you to vote. Vote with your ballot. Vote with your dollar. Vote with your deed.
